Maps and Japanese food

There is a restaurant just outside our university where all the tables are covered with maps. I got a table with a map of Kyoto today. Other maps show Thailand, Paris, Turkey, etc. This place serves very good food, and it is very cheap. I had chicken saute. Another funny thing is that the two old men who run the place just close the restaurant when they run out of rice. Which they do quite early. They never make more rice (that day, or a larger batch next day), they just close up and go home. Another interesting detail is that you almost always get a knife and a fork to eat with, which is not common in Japan.
