Pancakes served in a pint

I ended up in a cafe here in Sapporo that serves pancakes in something that looks like beer glasses. The Japanese friend I was there with told me that "this is very popular now", so apparently many places do this. I have not seen it before or since, though I do not go to cafes very often. My impression after trying this is that it is still more convenient to eat from a normal plate. But it looks interesting.

Trying to use up eggs by making Swedish pancakes

Since I now have bizarre amounts of eggs at home, I try to come up with new ways of using eggs. I made Swedish pancakes one day. In Japan, the word "pancake" means American style pancakes; very soft and fluffy things that are very sweet. The Swedish word "pancake" means something that has no sugar (but some salt) and is very thin. You can put jam and whipped cream on them to make it a dessert, but you can put cheese/ham/mushrooms on them to make them a regular meal too.

Galette and cheese

I had an evening all to myself when my professor and the other people I know were on a conference banquet dinner cruise on the Seine river. I had a galette (buckweat flour crepe) with cheese and mushrooms, which was cheap and good.

Swedish waffles and Swedish pancakes

On Sunday one of my friends stopped by and wanted to eat Swedish waffles. I also made some Swedish pancakes. My friend had also brought another young Japanese girl along.

I provided jam and whipped cream for a dessert style waffle or pancake, and I also provided cheese, ham, and Swedish mushrooms. Both options were popular. In return, they gave me some Fukagawa omiyage which consists of Japanese sweet stuff, like matcha (green tea) and anko (sweet beans).
