Yokohama

On Friday we had a meeting in Yokohama (about 90 minutes by plane from Sapporo and then 40 minutes by train) with a researcher from Germany. We are doing research together and since he was in Yokohama for unrelated reasons, we flew down to Yokohama too to have some face-to-face time.

The meeting was very fruitful. We also had excellent lunch. We had the meeting in a research park in the middle of nowhere and there were no restaurants and only one convenience store (very rare with so few convenience stores in Japan) near the station. We found a sushi restaurant that turned out to be super good (even our Japanese professor deemed the place and the chef to be excellent), though.
Fish soup was included in the lunch
The chef kept making and putting pieces of sushi of various kinds on your little wooden tray
More sushi

At the end of the day, we got a tour of the research facility we borrowed a room in. This is a gene sequence analysis machine.
