On the same floor as our magic bar there is a very popular bar with a former pro-wrestling guy as owner. It was his birthday during the weekend, which meant everyone tried to get him drunk. He was sleeping in the hall many hours before they usually close the bar (they are usually going strong with lots of people partying hard at around 6 A.M. when we go home...). My bartender friend tells me that in Japan it is customary to allow anyone to become extremely drunk and not be able to work properly on their birthday. Not only is it allowed, the rest of the staff will probably do their best to make you drunk...
